EXERCÍCIOS - Exercício 10

  • (IF-MS 2019)

After going through several classifications proposed by learning strategies and personal observations, Menezes (2004) identified specific strategies used to learn vocabulary. These strategies are organized in four groups: metacognitive, cognitive, social and communication. Considering the author’s understanding, read the examples of strategies used by some students and mark the alternative that corresponds to a cognitive strategy.

A) Jim has been an English student for two years. Every time he learns new vocabulary, he likes to write sentences or short stories to help him remember the words.

B)

Sarah can speak very good English. Sometimes she gets nervous and she forgets words. She usually solves this pr oblem by choosing other words that are close in meaning to what she wants to say.

C) Ben is very worried about his learning process. He enjoys making lists of words that he feels he needs to know.

D) Anna learns a lot of new words by listening to proficient speakers. She uses YouTube channels and she always tries to have face-to-face interactions with other people who can speak English.

E) Tina feels she needs to learn more all the time. She usually tests herself in order to make sure she has memorized everything she plans to learn.
